The Canadian Golf Teachers Federation trains and certifies golf teaching professionals. It was established in 1992 and has since grown to become the largest organization of strictly golf teaching professionals in the nation with over 1400 members. Participants are taught how to teach every aspect of the game.

Dave Findlay (the instructor and owner) joined the CPGA (Canadian Professional Golfers Assoc.) in the early 1970s. After many years as a club pro and manager, he decided to return to his original love...playing the game and teaching - especially juniors., and is a certified member of the CGTF.

Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan will soon be able to expand their small driving range.  Mr. Dave Findlay, owner of the Airport Golf Academy & Driving Range, initially provided some golf equipment when the troops from Petawawa were deployed in August.  An e-mail from one of the soldiers described how much they were enjoying their driving range and went on to say that a couple of American soldiers stopped by one day to hit a few balls before continuing on their way.

Encouraged by this e-mail, Dave Findlay contacted the Brigade RSM to get approval for sending even more driving range equipment to our troops in Afghanistan.  Then he placed a few calls to his suppliers explaining his plan of action and requesting their support.  They responded with enthusiasm and within days the donations began arriving.  A company in Mississauga, “Nearly New Golf Balls”, sent 2000 balls, 20 golf mats and tees.  Wilson Sports in Belleville donated golf clubs (irons and drivers) and GT & T in Kitchener also sent golf clubs. The Airport Golf Academy & Driving Range provided golf clubs, balls, baskets and shag bags (used to retrieve the balls).

On Friday, Oct. 6 Mr. Findlay delivered the equipment to Base Petawawa for shipment to Afghanistan. In total 49 golf clubs, 2500 golf balls, 20 golf mats, 3 shag bags & 10 baskets were received by CWO Tibbel and Capt McKeever of 2 RCHA on behalf of the Brigade RSM, CWO Moretti and all Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan.

Mr. Dave Findlay owner/instructor of the Airport Golf Academy & Driving Range presents Kathy Kennedy, Renfrew County unit manager for the Canadian Cancer Society with a cheque for $305.  Mr. Findlay, himself a cancer survivor, set up a ‘Tire in One’ event at the driving range to raise money for the 2006 Relay for Life. Unfortunately the weather did not co-operate and 3 weeks of cold, rainy weather put a damper on the number of golfers who utilized the driving range and the amount of money raised was lower than what the range staff had hoped for. During the Tire in One event there were three winners - each winning $50. Mr. Findlay is even now putting together plans for a larger and more interesting fund raiser for 2007.
